Next ‘Clean Up Day’
aka ‘The Raised Beds Challenge’
Sunday May 8th 11am -1pm
Meet at the Hut. Hot weather forecast!
We will be transforming the former compost and recycling bays (next to the hut) into five individual raised beds. This will need a team effort and lots of muscle power. Can you help?
We will remove the waste in the bays, clear the surrounding area, build beds by re-positioning the existing concrete slats, distribute the compost from the former green waste bays, create a top layer of Revive compost and plant seasonal veg. These bays will initially be communal plots but will be let in the future. If you have mobility issues and are interested in having a raised bed, please call at the hut. We also need volunteers to post leaflets regarding vandalism on the allotments.
Our previous ‘Clean Up Day’ was on Sunday April 10th. A group of plot holders helped to look after our site by litter picking the car park area and the main paths, removing non-metal items that had been put into the metal waste area and removing waste items from our site, welcoming new plot holders and staffing the shop. We collected a large bag of reusable plastic plant pots – if you would like some, they are in the hut. Also collected were two vacuum cleaners, a wheel and tyre, several large bags of waste and wood.
Big thanks go to Robin, Phillippa, Barry, James, Dawn, Kath and Lydia. We received offers of help for the next event and several apologies from people who were unable to help this month. Some plot holders have offered to do their bit on other days as they can’t make Sunday mornings. If you would like to help at other times, please let us know and we can find you suitable tasks. Either speak to a Committee member or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Please bring along gloves and sturdy shoes. No welfare facilities on site.
